Yesterday I provided some dance photography for a young lady who is a dance student. Natalie needed a dance photographer to capture her in some striking ballet poses, but also a few modelling photos for her portfolio. Apparently dance companies want model photos more so than dance photos: odd. Anyway, I organised the photo shoot with Maunsel House so there was a hall and a few other rooms free to give some variety to the shots. Having photographed the odd wedding at Maunsel House in North Newton, I knew it would have wonderful backgrounds that would be just perfect for model photos.
Natalie and I first walked around Maunsel House looking at the options for a good dance space, and then sumptuous backgrounds for the modelling photos. I noted a few areas that I thought would look very interesting in the background and tried to find backgrounds that suited what she was choosing to wear. Maunsel House has some very luxurious furnishings, so the photos along with Natalie’s good looks produced some stunning imagery. It’s true to say that I could have spent a great deal longer looking around at all the different features and making the most of them in the photos.
And here are a few ballet dance photos. Whilst Natalie prepared her attire, I set up the lights. I can take your dance photos wherever you want. Maunsel House provided an attractive background, but equally your ballet photos could be on a plain background of a single colour if you need cleaner images with less distractions.
I’m also happy to take dance photos on location. Some ballet poses would look absolutely stunning against a background of trees or a beach with dramatic cliffs behind.
It would definitely benefit your portfolio of dance images if you brought along a few outfits. Flowing material would look very organic and dramatic.
