Why are wedding photographers so expensive?
You should expect to pay about £1000+ for a complete day of coverage at your wedding and a quality set of images at the end of it. The cost will be made up from the following:
- Photography experience. This can mean the difference between poorly taken photos and ones that capture your day beautifully. Not to mention a photographer who will capture your wedding day smoothly without affecting your enjoyment of it.
- Cost of equipment such as cameras and computing equipment/software which needs to be updated every 2-3 years. This runs into thousands of £s
- Time on your wedding day, and typically at least 2 or 3x this time duration working on the photo editing, admin, and correspondence over email, phone and in person
- Being self employed also means long term costs such as insurance, no paid holiday or sick pay and the unpredictability of new photography work.
How much do you charge for wedding photography?
Are you insured?
What experience do you have?
I’ve photographed more than 125 weddings and understand my equipment well.
What if it rains?
I can’t control the weather, but I am versatile at getting great photos in spite of what the weather may choose to do.
How long have you been doing this?
Do you do offer wedding albums?
Yes I offer bespoke, contemporary albums of a high quality. My clients have loved the results.
How long until we get our wedding photos?
Normally within a week or two unless I am very busy. Usually the only delay is the couple themselves choosing the images they want.
Are all the wedding photos on your website taken by you?
There have only been two occasions where I have had an assistant, but most of the photos were taken by me at those weddings. Any photos taken by the assistants were additional to what I was taking rather than crucial moments.
Do you offer NHS discounts?
Yes. Provide proof of working for the NHS, and if you spend £1100 or more on a digital only wedding photography package, I will give you £100 off.
How much of the wedding do you cover?
I will cover as much as you want. Weddings vary though, so to make sure I give the same service to everyone, I charge by the hour. Each hour usually generates around 100 or more edited photos, but the longer I am there, the more complete the story.
It’s a long day, do we need to feed you?
That’s up to you. I don’t expect a meal, but usually if I bring my own, it’s not really the done thing to sit with a tupperware and eat in the same room as all the guests. In which case I would move to another room. So if I am included in the meal, it means I am able to keep an eye on what is going on and also build a better rapport with your wedding guests. This can help improve the photo opportunities. It’s your call, I simply need to know beforehand.
